Emerging Roles of microRNAs in Malignant Neuroblastoma
نویسنده
چکیده
Discovery of microRNAs (miRNAs) as negative regulators of gene expression at post-transcriptional level has revealed a new layer of finest regulation of cell signaling mechanisms in normal development and abnormal growth. The pathogenesis in most of the tumors including malignant neuroblastoma, a childhood malignancy in most cases, is now known to be linked to aberrant expression of a wide range of miRNAs, which can be oncogenic or tumor suppressor molecules. Many miRNAs seem to be involved in avoiding differentiation and apoptotic death while driving the growth of human malignant neuroblastoma. So, modulation of expression of specific oncogenic and tumor suppressor miRNAs may provide us novel therapeutic opportunities to enhance induction of differentiation and apoptosis and also inhibition of autophagy, proliferation, multidrug resistance, migration, invasion, and metastasis in human malignant neuroblastoma. *Corresponding author: Swapan K Ray, Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology, University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Building 2, Room C11 6439 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC 29209, USA, E-mail: [email protected] Received March 28, 2013; Accepted May 08 2013; Published May 11, 2013 Citation: Ray SK (2013) Emerging Roles of microRNAs in Malignant Neuroblastoma. MicroRNAs as biomarkers associated with bladder cancer
Bladder cancer is the fifth most common cancer with significant morbidity and mortality. Recently, numerous studies demonstrated that microRNAs are emerging as diagnostic biomarkers for bladder cancer. Specific miRNA profiles have been identified for several samples from patients with bladder cancer. MicroRNAs are noncoding RNA molecules of approximately 23 nucleotides that play important roles...

Context:MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of short, endogenously-initiated, non-coding RNAs that post-transcriptionally control gene expression via translational repression or mRNA turnover. MiRNAs have attracted much attention in recent years as they play critical roles in gene expression and are promising tools with many biotech and therapeutic applications. The molecular mechanisms und...

Neuroblastoma, one of the common malignant childhood tumors, arises from neuroblast cells derived from theneural crest and destined for the adrenal medulla and the sympathetic nervous system and shows remarkable biologicalheterogeneity, resulting in favorable or unfavorable outcomes. Some tumors make rapid progress with a fataloutcome. In other instances, the tumors regress spontaneously in inf...

BACKGROUND Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common extracranial solid tumor in childhood and displays remarkable heterogeneity in clinical behaviors, ranging from spontaneous regression to rapid progression or resistance to multimodal treatment. Recent evidence has shown that microRNAs (miRNAs), a class of small non-coding RNAs, are involved in tumor development and progression. This article aime...
